Viva la Musica was founded in the spring of 2002. Since then the choir has performed two seasons annually, giving concerts each spring and early December.

In the summer of 2005, Viva la Musica participated in the Vermont International Summer Music Festival under the direction of Robert DeCormier. Last December, 2006, the choir made its first overseas trip, to perform in Salzburg and Vienna, as part of the Mozart 250th birthday celebrations.

Viva la Musica’s wide-ranging repertoire includes classical works and ethnic world music. Masterworks the choir has performed include Vivaldi Magnificat; Vivaldi Gloria; Pachelbel Magnificat; Buxtehude Magnificat; Charpentier Te Deum; Pergolesi Stabat Mater; Mozart Magnificat; Mozart Coronation Mass; Mozart Requiem; Ariel Ramirez Misa Criolla; and Robert Ray Gospel Magnificat. |

This season marks the close of a four-year-tenure as the campus-community choir of Notre Dame de Namur University. Viva la Musica is excited about its graduation from college! Our new performance venue is the spacious, acoustically fabulous, freshly renovated, conveniently located St. Mark’s Church, 325 Marine View Avenue. There is plenty of free parking with easy access to the church.

Viva la Musica! is a nonprofit public benefit corporation, organized under the California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for public and charitable purposes and within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The specific purpose of this corporation is to promote the study and performance of classical and multi-cultural musical repertoire, and to cultivate artistic excellence and intellectual enjoyment, in order to foster a global network of culture, peace and mutual respect between the world’s peoples. |
